Selective Land Clearing and Site Prep in St. Augustine & Jacksonville
Jeff Mobley Tree Service handles land clearing, light excavation and demolition for homeowners and contractors preparing a lot for construction or landscaping. Jeff clears selectively, keeping as much healthy tree cover as the plan allows. The work includes palmetto removal, stump extraction, small demolition, and clearing and leveling for foundations, concrete walls and driveways. Jeff has done this work around St. Augustine since 1998 and serves St. Johns County, Jacksonville and Palm Coast. He's licensed and insured, and quotes are free.

Clearing that keeps the trees worth keeping
A bare lot is faster to clear. It’s also hotter, sells for less and takes decades to shade again. Jeff walks the lot with the owner or builder first, marks which trees stay, and clears around them. He looks for wildlife before any tree comes down, the same as on every other job.
Palmettos, stumps and brush
Saw palmetto roots run just under the surface and regrow if they’re left in the ground. Jeff removes palmettos and stumps along with brush and understory so the site is ready for grading.
Demolition and lot prep for new construction
Jeff and his crew handle site clearing and the equipment work that gets a lot ready for a foundation or driveway.

Permits and protected trees on a building lot
Clearing for new construction usually falls under stricter tree rules than removing a single tree from an existing yard. St. Johns County applies its tree protection rules mainly to development, where fees can be charged for protected trees that aren’t replaced. The City of St. Augustine and St. Augustine Beach have their own rules. Jeff can review the plan before clearing starts.
Land clearing questions
Can you clear part of a lot and leave the big oaks?
Yes. Selective clearing is the core of Jeff’s land work. He marks the trees to keep with you before any equipment moves.
Do you remove palmettos and stumps?
Yes. Palmettos and stumps are removed with the rest of the clearing so the lot is ready for grading.
Do I need a permit to clear my lot?
Often, yes, especially for new construction. The rules depend on whether the lot is in St. Augustine, St. Augustine Beach or unincorporated St. Johns County. Jeff checks before work starts.
